Muhammad bin Ismail bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn bin Salih bin Sha’i Al-Amrani As-San’ani. He was born in Rabi al-Awwal, 1340 AH.
He was the Mufti of the Republic of Yemen and a member of the Association of Yemeni and Muslim Scholars and one of the leading Muslim scholars in jurisprudence and the principles of Islamic law.
Judge (Qadhi) Muhammad bin Ismail was known as Al-Amrani, although he was born, raised, and educated in Sana'a. The reason for this is because his family's origin is the city of Amran. The first of his family to move to Sana'a and settle there was his grandfather, Qadhi Ali bin Husayn bin Salih bin Sha’i Al-Amrani in the twelfth century after the Prophetic Hijra - upon the Prophet and his family be the best blessings and peace.
He married and had five sons. He belonged to a distinguished family of knowledge, rooted in virtue, righteousness, and judicature. His ancestors contributed to the dissemination of knowledge and strived in education, guidance, and authorship. His grandfather, the distinguished Qadhi Muhammad bin Ali Al-Amrani, was one of the most prominent students of Shaykh Al-Islam, the erudite Qadhi Muhammad bin Ali Al-Shawkani. Shaykh Muhammad bin Ismail issued religious edicts for more than forty years, during which he was the Mufti of Yemen. He passed away to the mercy of Allah on the second Monday of the month of Dhul Hijjah, 1442 AH.
