Habib Omar bin Ahmed bin Sumait

Habib Umar bin Ahmad bin Sumayt Ba'Alawi Al-Husayni - may Allah have mercy on him - was the Mufti of the Comoros Islands and its senior Qadhi (judge). He was born in 1303 AH in the town of Itsandra near the capital Moroni in the Comoros Islands, and is considered one of its most prominent figures as he contributed to its reform at various religious and social levels.

He made a journey to Hadramawt, the story of which he documented in his book "An-Nafhah Al-Shadhiyya ilal Bilad al-Hadramiyya ('The Fragrant Breeze to the Hadhrami Lands)." His portrait adorns the Comoros Islands' currency - the 10,000 franc banknote - in recognition of his efforts.

Among his most prominent students and those who took from him were Habib Abdul Qadir bin Ahmad As-Saqqaf, Habib Ahmad Mashhur bin Taha Al-Haddad, Habib Abu Bakr Al-Attas bin Abdullah Al-Habashi, and Shaykh Muhammad Sa’id Al-Bidh. He passed away in 1396 AH.
