Shaykh Hasanain Makhlouf - may Allah have mercy on him - was a senior scholar of Al-Azhar. He was born in Cairo in Ramadan, 1307 AH / May 1890. His father was responsible for his upbringing and education, and at the age of ten, he memorized the Quran. He went on to study under senior shaykhs at Al-Azhar and later joined the School of Sharia Law, which only admitted students who passed a rigorous exam. In 1332 AH (1914), he graduated as one of the top students of the school after completing a four-year program.
He began his career as a teacher and later worked as a judge, serving as the Mufti of Egypt and then as the head of the Fatwa Committee at Al-Azhar for an extended period. During this time, he also delivered lectures at Al-Husayni Mosque. He dedicated his life to serving knowledge and Islam and lived to be over one hundred years old. He passed away in Ramadan of 1410 AH (April 1990).
