Sayyid Muhammad Amin Kutbi


Muhammad Amin bin Muhammad Amin bin Muhammad Salih bin Muhammad Husayn Kutbi Al-Hasani Al-Hanafi (a descendant of the noble Prophet, peace and blesssings be upon him), was nicknamed "Natiq Al-Asr" (The Voice of the Era) by Sayyid Hasan bin Muhammad Fad'aq (may Allah have mercy upon him).


Born in Harat Al-Bab in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in 1327 AH, he was raised in the care of his parents, who enrolled him in Shaykh Ahmad Hamam's school at the mosque of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) next to their house in Harat Al-Bab in 1335 AH. He completed memorization of the Quran in 1338 AH. His father then enrolled him at Madrassah Al-Falah, where he memorized the Quran with tajweed under the guidance of Shaykh Hasan Al-Sanari Al-Makki. He then studied various Islamic sciences under the guidance of several renowned scholars and graduated from Al-Falah in 1346 AH.


His teachers included Shaykh Muhammad Al-Arabi At-Tibani, Shaykh Muhammad Yahya Aman Al-Hanafi, Shaykh Ahmed Nadirin, Shaykh Isa Rawwas, Shaykh Salim Shafi, Shaykh Muhammad At-Tayyib Al-Marrakchi, Sayyid Abdullah Hamdouh, Shaykh Umar bin Hamdan Al-Mahrasi, Shaykh Abdul Ghani Al-Hanafi, Shaykh Muhammad Abdul Baqi Al-Luknawi, Shaykh Amin Fodah, Sayyid Abdullah bin Tahir Al-Haddad, Shaykh Ahmad Ai-Tiji, Shaykh Mustafa Al-Hamami, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Shalabi, Sayyid Mustafa Al-Mihdhar, Shaykh Muhammad Abul Khayr Al-Maydani, Sayyid Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Fasi, Sayyid Ahmad Al-Shatiri, Shaykh Muhammad Ali bin Husayin Al-Maliki, Sayyid Muhammad Al-Marzuqi Abu Husayn, Shaykh Sulayman Ghazawi, and many others. May Allah have mercy on them and gather us with them in the abode of eternity, in gardens beneath which rivers flow.


He taught at the Holy Mosque in Makkah and had students from all over the world. His occupations included teaching at the Masjid al-Haram, Madrassah Al-Falah, Preparatory Missions School, and Teachers' Training Institute.


He authored "Nafh At-Tib Fi Madh Al-Habib" (The Sweet Fragrance in Praising the Beloved peace and blessings be upon him) and "Bashir Al-Kiram 'ala Bulugh Al-Maram" (a commentary on Ibn Hajar's "Bulugh Al-Maram"), in addition to unpublished manuscripts. He also left behind a valuable library under the care of the Kutbi family in Ajyad Al-Masafi neighborhood.


He passed away at the age of 77 at Asr on Monday, 4th of Muharram, 1404 AH, and was buried in Ma'la Cemetery in Makkah after the Maghrib prayer. May Allah have mercy on him.
