The erudite scholar and judge (qadhi) Abdullah bin Mahfuz bin Muhammad al-Haddad Ba Alawi - may Allah have mercy on him - was born in Hadhramaut in 1342 AH. He sought knowledge in his city, Ad-Deis Al-Sharqiya, then moved to the city of Tarim to study at the Ribat of Tarim under the tutelage of the erudite scholar Habib Abdullah bin Umar Al-Shatiri, among others.
He joined the Ribat in Al-Ghayl and was subsequently appointed as a qadhi. He then continued his higher studies in judiciary, studying in Sudan until he graduated from the University of Khartoum.
He was famous for his knowledge, bravery, and good character.
A collection of his works were published.
He passed away in 1417 AH.
